"Santa Fe"
Written by Leah West Produced by Marty Rifkin Keyboards by Bob Malone This Song is about Georgia O'Keeffe. She is one of my favorite artists of all time. Her visions take me to a totally different place away from the hectic and craziness of the world. Her paintings are serene and magical and her art has inspired me so much. I love reading about her amazing journeys and the challenges that this incredibly strong-willed woman took on in her life. You can see that in my artwork below, although it is all 'Leah', it has been so deeply influenced by this woman's presence in my life. This song is a tribute to the woman who has made such an impression on me and has literally changed the direction that I've taken in my life. Thanks Georgia! ![]() "Solace" Oil Painting by Leah West This One's For Taylor
This is for my cousin Taylor.
For some reason, some of the kids at her school don't believe we are cousins and called her a liar. Here you go Taylor... Tell those kids to take a look at this pic of the two of us! Love your cuz, Leah ![]() Orange Bliss
Hello Everyone, wanted to let you know about my new song 'Orange Bliss'. I wrote it about the day I went to the Poppy Reserve in the Antelope Valley in California. It's just this giant open space with oranges and yellows bursting everywhere. On a bluebird day, the contrast is out of this world. There's something about fields of blooms that transport you back into your childhood carefree self. So this is a song about rediscovery. It was magically produced by Marty Rifkin, who constantly amazes me with these brilliant ideas to bring out what I've come up with and turn it into a great song. Thanks to Marty for bringing this song into fruition. And thanks to Mother Nature for bringing so much beauty to this world for us to admire and be inspired by. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do! Peace, Love & Orange Bliss, Leah West

Purple Starfish ![]() Everyone looks for inspiration. Even the most creative people in touch with their inner child artist, struggle at times to find something to churn the fires within. I must admit that sometimes I feel lost. I forget all I have been offered, all I have been blessed to experience and be a part of. Blessed enough to have time to ponder the small things. A trip I took recently stirred something deep in me. At times, I get bogged down with "chop wood, carry water" like everyone, but I needed to reconnect to nature. We humans do a funny thing in thinking we are above or separate from nature when we are very much a part of it. This disconnect leaves us depressed and lonely in a world seeking to connect to us, too. This summer I started to feel misdirected and I knew I needed to free something old and scarred within me. I took a trip to Salt Spring Island, British Columbia and what a jewel it is sparkling its wonder in the sheltered waters between Vancouver Island and the Mainland of BC, Canada. On a misty day I took my bike on a trip to the south of the island. I stopped along the way to eat a plethora of wild blackberries, delicately hung between thorny vines. In a little park with a hiking trail by the sea, I made my way to the shore and stumbled upon these bright purple starfish. They were huddled together on a rock in the retreating tide, as if hoping for the next high tide to again surround them in their comfort zone of these softly swishing waters. They clung to each other like ardent lovers in a desperate time, reassuring each other it would be okay. This place is quiet, the quiet that erases thinking and allows intuition and knowing. Was it possible they were aware of me, too? They were a magical reminder of the immense possibilities that this world offers. A reminder that happiness does not need to be pursued as we were taught in school from the doctrines of old, stiff ideas. Happiness waits for us all the time within us, we just need to allow it...no pursuing needed. Why is it we fear what is so near, so perfect and right for us and trade it for security and predictability, even if the predictability eventually becomes our own prison? I often wonder if there are reasons for being put into the form we were born into. Is there a divine purpose for the set of gifts and challenges we were entrusted with in this lifetime. Did my spirit manifest itself in the current form to allow me certain opportunities for greater lessons? Perhaps. But today purple starfish fill my heart with wonder and optimism that everything is dynamic, mystical, and as it should be. This is exactly what my lost and lonely heart needed. And I am okay lingering in the essence of this question... Leah West Looking for YOUR Input!!!

Yay! I finally got this thing up with a little help from my friends. 100 hours later, we're up and running. The 100 hours probably has something to do with the fact that I'm a bit of a technological nincompoop.
But somehow it doesn't look half bad. So, lots on the horizon. I'm excited about the new songs we've been creating and I hope you are enjoying the music, the pics and this silly blog. We are trying to put a tour together and book some shows and festivals. Please send info our way if you think we should be playing at a venue near you, we love that kind of stuff. Thank you for all the wonderful people who have already signed my guestbook. I'm so honoured, I cannot even tell you. I'm feeling the love, thank you so much. Well, I wish you a magnificent day and please stop by my website and MySpace page often for any updates, or just to listen to some great music! Warm Regards, Leah West
